St. Catharines officially opens new, net-zero fire station

St. Catharines has officially opened its new, net-zero Fire Station 2 on Linwell Road.

Mayor Mat Siscoe, Fire Chief Dave Upper, and local officials celebrated the opening earlier this week.

The modern facility meets Canada’s Zero Carbon Building Standard, featuring rooftop solar panels, electric heating and cooling, and other green innovations.

Funded in part by federal and provincial grants, the fire station includes upgraded truck bays, gender-inclusive facilities, and a specialized gear washer to reduce firefighters’ exposure to harmful contaminants.

A new pumper tanker fire truck was also unveiled.
