The Ontario Special Investigations Unit has closed its file on an incident in Niagara Falls involving a 20-year-old man who sustained a right-hand fracture.
Deputy Director Stacey O’Brien ended the investigation after evidence showed the injury was not caused by police actions.
On July 23, Niagara Regional Police reported the man’s diagnosis to the SIU following his arrest on July 17 at the Gale Centre Arena.
The arrest followed a police pursuit after the man and three others allegedly attempted to break into a residence subject to a search warrant.
The man fled to the arena, where he slipped after losing his shoes and fell on the floor, injuring his hand. Witnesses confirmed no officers were in contact with him when he fell.
