RBC Foundation commits $450k to Niagara college EV safety training

Niagara College is set to launch a new electric vehicle safety training program with support from the RBC Foundation, which has committed $450,000 to the initiative.

The EV First Responders Training pilot program is designed to meet the growing need for specialized skills as more EV and hybrid vehicles appear on Canadian roads.

Delivered through NC’s Green Automotive Technology Lab, the program will provide hands-on, scenario-based training for paramedics, firefighters, police officers, automotive technicians, and students.

Up to 800 people are expected to complete the training in its first year, with a total of 2,400 over the three-year pilot.

Training will be held at the Welland Campus starting in fall 2025, free of charge for participants.

Sessions will be limited to 20 people and offered in both hybrid and in-person formats. Registration will open online at niagaracollege.ca closer to launch.
