Niagara Regional Police have arrested two men in connection with a string of related crimes spanning St. Catharines and Thorold.
The investigation began August 5, after officers responded to a vehicle theft and break and enter in St. Catharines.
Police say a vehicle was stolen from an auto body shop between the evening of August 4 and the early morning of August 5. That vehicle was then used to steal an ATM from a local business.
Later, officers in Thorold responded to an alarm and determined the same stolen vehicle had been used to commit another break and enter, resulting in the theft of a second ATM.
On August 11, detectives located and recovered the stolen vehicle, collecting additional evidence.
Two days later, police arrested 53-year-old Thomas Hann of Thorold and 37-year-old Christopher Claus. Both are now facing charges.
Investigators have since recovered both stolen ATMs, and a search warrant executed at a Thorold residence also led to the seizure of offence-related property.
