A St. Catharines man is celebrating after winning a record breaking Canal Days 50/50 draw, all in support of Port Cares.
Norm Savoie was announced as the winner earlier this week, taking home over $46,000 in winnings, with another $46,000 supporting Port Cares.
The prize money was collected during the Canal Days Festival this past long weekend, as well as throughout July online.
With no government funding to sustain these services, Port Cares says must raise $700,000 through fundraising and donations this year to meet the growing need. In 2024 alone, the agency spent nearly $200,000 on canned and boxed food items due to a steep drop in non-perishable donations.
