Shaw Festival announces details of $150-million campaign

Campaign would fund a new Royal George Theatre, artists village

The Shaw Festival in Niagara-on-the-Lake has some major plans, as part of a $150-million mission.

The festival announced this week the All.Together.Now Campaign, which is aiming to raise the money to transform the festival into a centre for communication, creativity and curiosity.

Inclusions in the massive campaign include a new Royal George Theatre, which will replace the 110-year-old theatre that is required to close at the end of this year because of its failing infrastructure. The new Theatre will be a world-class performance space and the first carbon neutral theatre in North America

An artists village is also planned, which will see the Shaw Festival renovate five existing buildings into classrooms, performance spaces and studios, named the Burton Centre for Lifelong Creativity.
