NOTL wins $2000 to support Heritage Trail Rehabilitation Project

Trail rehabilitation work is about half done

Niagara-on-the-Lake has been recognized as one of two second-place winners of the 2025 Wege Small Cities Sustainability Best Practices Award, presented by the Board of Directors of the Great Lakes–St. Lawrence Cities Initiative.

The award highlights the Town’s exceptional environmental stewardship and its active role in protecting water resources across the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence River Basin—the largest source of surface freshwater in the world.

The achievement aligns with the Town’s Strategic Plan and environmental stewardship framework, which prioritize water as a vital natural asset.

As part of the award, Niagara-on-the-Lake will receive $2,000 USD to support the Heritage Trail Rehabilitation Project.

The 10-kilometre trail, championed by the Town’s Heritage Trail Committee, is now approaching its halfway mark after eight years of community-driven work and fundraising.
