Niagara Falls reminding residents not to pour grease, fat and oil down the drain

Improper disposal could be enforced by region's sewer-use by-law

The City of Niagara Falls is reminding residents not to pour fats, oils, and grease down the drain.

These substances, including butter, meat drippings, and cooking oil, can clog pipes, cause sewage backups, and lead to costly damage.

Instead, let them cool and solidify, then scrape it into your green bin or pour cooled oil into a container for disposal at a household hazardous waste depot.

Wiping greasy residue with a paper towel before rinsing dishes also helps protect your plumbing.

Improper disposal is enforceable under Niagara Region’s Sewer-use By-law.
