Major pond restoration project in Fonthill now complete

Two artificial ponds connected as water flow rerouted

After seven years of planning, the Nature Conservancy of Canada has completed a major pond restoration project at Lathrop Nature Preserve in Fonthill.

The effort aims to protect cold-water fish habitat in Twelve Mile Creek by reducing water temperatures and improving water quality.

Two artificial ponds were disconnected and water flow was rerouted, while over 500 native trees and shrubs were planted.

Trails are now reopened, with signage to come. The project was supported by multiple partners, including the Government of Ontario and Niagara College.
