A stolen gun and nearly $100,000 in unreported cash were among the items seized at the Peace Bridge during Operation Meridian, a 60-day CBSA effort targeting smuggling at southern Ontario border crossings.
The campaign increased scrutiny of commercial shipments and resulted in the seizure of more than 108 kg of cocaine, 349.8 kg of methamphetamine, 266 kg of khat, 8,267 kg of tobacco products, nine firearms, 19 weapons, small quantities of opium, and $93,100 in U.S. cash.
A 25-year-old from Covington, Georgia, was charged after attempting to smuggle a stolen firearm, while a 31-year-old from Springfield, New York, was arrested for failing to report the cash.
CBSA says about 90 per cent of all seizures involved goods being smuggled into Canada.
