Due to extreme heat and dry conditions, St. Catharines, Welland, Port Colborne, and West Lincoln have all issued total open-air fire bans, effective immediately.
The bans include campfires, fire pits, outdoor fireplaces, sky lanterns, cooking fires, and more.
All existing burn permits in these municipalities are suspended until further notice.
Fire officials in each community will continue to monitor conditions and post updates online when bans are lifted. Residents are reminded that fireworks are also prohibited under these bans.
