Even with overnight rain, fire bans across Niagara continue to be implemented.
Yesterday, the Niagara Region itself issued a total fire ban, as well as Niagara Falls Fire Chief Jo Zambito. Earlier this week, open-air bans were issued in St. Catharines, Welland, Port Colborne, and West Lincoln.
The ban is intended to protect public safety and will remain in place until conditions improve and rainfall reduces the risk.
Officials note there are currently 70 active wildfires burning across Ontario, underscoring the danger of fire spread at this time of year. The ban also includes consumer fireworks. Natural Resources Canada currently rates the wildfire risk as “extreme.”
