What's Good in Niagara? NRPH warning of ticks as temperatures warm

Tick season is in full swing, as they’re something that both people and pets deal with every summer.

Environmental Health Manager Gillian Dilts says they can cause of risk to you if they get attached.

She says you can avoid this by wearing light-coloured clothing while working in long grass, as well as tucking your pants into your socks while hiking.

To remove a tick, Dilts says it’s important to make sure it’s done properly.

If you have any health concerns after a tick bite, consult a health care provider as soon as possible.

Most cases of Lyme disease can be treated successfully with antibiotics, and pharmacists have been able to prescribe medication to treat tick bites to prevent Lyme disease since January 2023.
