What's Good in Niagara? Chandra Hardeen hits the ground running as new Port Cares CEO

For the first time in over a decade, Port Cares has a new CEO, as Chandra Hardeen looks to lead the organization into its next chapter.

Hardeen, who has also worked for the Niagara Region and United Way of Niagara, says coming to Port Cares was something she was interested in after hearing Christine Clark LaFleur was retiring this year.

She says she's known Clark LaFleur for years, and worked with her quite closesly after finding out she got the job.

Since starting in the role, Hardeen says she's met many of the staff at Port Cares, and noted they've all been very welcoming.

Port Cares offers a number of outreach services across Port Colborne and Wainfleet, including employment services, a food bank and eviction prevention.

Hardeen says she's going to look to community collaboration to help the organization grow even more.

2026 marks the 40th anniversary of Port Cares, while Hardeen says she intends of helping the organization as it enters its fifth decade of service to the Port Colborne community.
