Province rewards St. Catharines, Niagara Falls and Welland With $6.8-million

Money provided from the Building Faster Fund

The Ontario government is awarding nearly $6.8 million to St. Catharines, Niagara Falls, and Welland after the cities hit key housing targets in 2024.

Premiere Doug Ford made the announcement today in St. Catharines.

Through the second round of the Building Faster Fund, the province is recognizing municipalities that break ground on at least 80% of their annual housing goals. Together, the three Niagara cities launched construction on close to 2,000 new homes this year.

Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing Rob Flack explains the issues people are facing.

The funding will help expand critical housing-related infrastructure, supporting Ontario’s broader strategy to speed up development and strengthen the economy.

Premiere Ford talked about how the funds will be distributed.

First introduced in 2023, the $1.2 billion Building Faster Fund is a three-year initiative designed to reduce delays in municipal approvals and encourage faster homebuilding across the province.
