The Ontario government is investing over $11-million in Niagara Region sports and recreation projects, with the largest portion, $10-million, going to upgrade the Chippawa Willoughby Memorial Arena.
The 52-year-old arena will undergo a major transformation, including a new NHL-sized ice pad, additional changerooms, more seating and a new community hub with a library and multi-generational programs.
Officials say the project will boost community events, support local growth and serve 1,100 new homes planned nearby.
Niagara Falls Mayor Jim Diodati called it a “transformational” investment that will benefit Niagara Falls families for generations.
The YMCA of Niagara and Niagara Olympic Club will also see some upgrades thanks to the funding.
