What's Good in Niagara? St. Catharines MP Chris Bittle reflects on Throne Speech

Millions of Canadians watched His Magesty King Charles III's Throne Speech earlier this week, but only a couple dozen got to see it in person.

St. Catharines MP Chris Bittle was one of them, and he says it was a surreal experience.

For Bittle, and every other Member of Parliament in the House of Commons, it was their first time seeing the Throne Speech being given by the head of the monarchy - as Queen Elizabeth was the last to do so during a visit in 1977.

Bittle says it's a great reminder of Canadian identity.

The King acknowledged the economic pressures Canadians are facing and pointed to international trade tensions, including those with the United States.

King Charles concluded his remarks with a statement that resonated deeply in the chamber and across the country.

“The true north is indeed, strong and free,” he said, drawing a standing ovation from members of Parliament and Senators.
